
A brief look at Malaga’s summer
Summer is just over, and it has been very positive for the city of Malaga. The main gateway to Costa del Sol is the most visited urban city of the region, and tourists keep coming back searching for great weather and beautiful locations.
According to the Ayuntamiento of Malaga, this summer, more than 40 thousand travellers stayed in hotels in Malaga. In other words, a growing rate of 72%, the biggest percentage of a urban city in Spain. And the Costa del Sol recorded the biggest number of overnight stays, with more than 2.3 million.
Hotel establishments benefit from the high number of tourists, registering an increase of 7.4% in overnight stays, as compared to the same period of 2015. “In July, a total of 42.8 million overnight stays were registered in hotel establishments. During the first seven months of 2016, overnight stays increased 8.9%, as compared to the same period of 2015”, says the Ayuntamiento de Malaga´s press release.
Tourists were mainly from England, Italy, Germany and France. The Brits concentrated 27.4% of the total of overnight stays in hotel establishments by non-residents and their market increased 9.6%. The germans, occupied 20.8% of the total of overnight stays and their market had an increase of 4.1%.
