In 1810 the city was taken by French troops, who were expelled two years later.

The industrial age in the city, makes that their products can be commercialized in all Spain. But soon after, Antequera would lose its market to Catalan textiles, until it disappeared completely.

Every year its high season is in spring and August. Closing the season with a Goyesque bullfight.

Features

Inside there are also corrals, courtyards, an inner corridor, a bullring with an outer diameter of 80 meters and 56 meters of rounds and a church, not a chapel.

It is a 3rd category square in which several advertisements have been recorded on it. And also Madonna recorded a video clip here.

A little bit of history of the Antequera bullring

First of all, in the middle of the 19th century, specifically in 1846, the Sociedad Constructora de la Plaza de Toros de Antequera was constituted in Antequera. That same year, the society in question acquired a plot of land with the intention of building the bullring.

The Antequera Bullring was inaugurated on August 20th 1848. With a poster formed by José Redondo, “El Chiclanero” and Juan Pastor, “El Barbero” with bulls from Picavea.

But due to the haste of its execution, the high lines were made of wood. And so they were until the year 1980, when the City Council acquired the Bullring. For that reason in 1983 it is decided to make a total reform. Beginning the remodeling the following year. Then a new main door of shade is constructed, following the model of style of the antequera alarifes of the last third of the 18th century.

The rest of the facade was subordinated to this monumental door, combining the modulation of brick and white fretwork. Later and little by little it was continued with the total reform of the interior of the square. Also a reconstruction of the layouts was made, reducing the diameter of the ring, as well as the total substitution of the covers, by means of the disposition of a logiada arcade, of Tuscan columns of white limestone and arcs of average point.

In addition, on this archway and the wall of the facade, a gabled roof of old Arabic tiles was placed. Once all the reforms have been completed, the current aspect of the Antequera Bullring is one of the most beautiful things in the world.
