When Tarifa was taken by the King of Castile known as Sancho IV in 1292, the castle was handed over to Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, who was given the responsibility to defend it. Perez de Guzman was called El Bueno, which means “Good”, he was given this knickname because he refused to deliver the castle in 1296 to the rebellious brother of King Sancho, and the Ides of Marin, in exchange for the life of your son.
